Personal Note

My Personal Thoughts on Enterprise Architecture

The artefact generation process is very wasteful, the process is very political, and the whole governance concept feels somewhat authoritarian. I can't say that I'm a fan. There are obviously good architecture-related aspects of it, I particularly liked the concepts of building blocks and work packages. However, just like enterprise business analysis and enterprise project management, enterprise architecture is ruined by being "enterprise". I will check this box on my CV, and hope to never have to do it.

There's also the part of it calling itself "free" and "open". It feels to me that if you restrict access, to copyrighted html files, that can't be exported; it's neither open nor free. The most basic certification you can obtain costs over 400 USD, and all "approved" tools of their UML clone spec (ArchiMate) are licensed products.
